CHS has supported the international community of Belgium since 1971, regardless of nationality or circumstances.

No one should feel alone - help is only a telephone call away.

CHS operates a Mental Health Services Centre in Brussels, housing an international team of professional therapists who support a comprehensive range of mental health issues.

The therapists are supported by volunteers who also manage the administrative aspects of CHS, a non-profit organisation.

All their therapists speak English, and many also work in other languages.

They also operate a 24/7 Helpline in English for children, adolescents and adults.

A team of volunteers staff the helpline, supervised and supported by mental health professionals working with CHS; calls are free of charge, anonymous and confidential.

Why CHS?

Community Help Service (CHS) is a non-profit organisation established in 1971 as a resource for the English-speaking expatriate population of Belgium.

Since then, it has developed its telephone Helpline, Mental Health Centre, and Educational Testing Services to encompass the many expatriate communities in Belgium who find it easier to use English than one of Belgium's official languages.

Since CHS has existed, it has built up expertise, second to none, in providing solutions, through therapeutic support, to the range of difficulties encountered by the people who turn to it in times of stress.

How CHS Helps

CHS clients come from all parts of the world. They come for therapy or seek testing for children with learning difficulties or emotional problems.

They call the Helpline if they are facing a crisis in their lives or if they have a straightforward request for information. The Helpline is staffed by a team of trained and dedicated volunteers, as is the CHS administrative office.

The Mental Health Centre is staffed by a team of healthcare professionals – psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists.

By contacting CHS, clients take the first steps toward understanding and adjusting to the demands of life as an expatriate. It can take just one phone call to help someone through a crisis or set up a course of treatment.
